Maher Magableh - EzyMart
Maher Magableh is the founder and Ceo of EzyMart. His chain of convenience stores use a business model built around their costumers needs and desires, which has built them a strong reputation for excellent customer service. Maher’s fantastic success story saw him become a finalist in the 32nd Annual Henry Ngai Medium to Large Business Award.
Q: What brought Maher to Australia?
A: Maher’s father pushed him to migrate to Australia in his early twenties as his brother and cousins were already here to study. Upon his arrival here, he began his postgraduate studies in business management and public relations.
Q: What was the inspiration behind starting a business?
A: It was a chance opportunity while studying that saw him being offered to partner in a small milk bar on Bondi Beach. Maher converted that first Milk Bar into a convenience store to better service the local clientele with unique products at competitive prices.
Following the success of his first store, he was made aware of a 7/11 that was closing down in Kings Cross. Surprised that such a populated area could go without a convenience store, Maher met with a guarantor and agreed to partner with him to open his second convenience store.
Noticing a gap in the market, Maher jumped on the opportunity to fill the demand.
Q: What growth has the business experienced?
A: With his confidence growing with the success of his two stores, Maher began to open more stores in 2012. The Ezymart name was now being spread across Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and the ACT. It was quickly becoming a national company.
From that one store in Bondi Beach, EzyMart now boasts over 400 locations Australia-wide, employs over 2,000 people and has evolved into one of the largest independently-owned convenience stores in the world.
